Happy Groundhog Day from Alcohollywood! This week, we cover the film that, well, we have to cover – the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, starring Bill Murray! This tale of repeating days and personal improvement is likely the funniest film about spiritual transcendence to be set in Pennsylvania. (I do not say that lightly.) Also stars romantic comedy staple Andie MacDowell and comedian Chris Elliot, relishing his 13th minute of fame.
THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The Punxsu-tini
1 part Bison Grass flavored vodka
1 part vanilla vodka
2 parts apple juice
Aerosol whipped cream
Combine and shake well. Pour into martini glass. Top with whipped cream and almonds.
DRINKING RULES FOR GROUNDHOG DAY:
- Whenever the alarm clock turns 6:00 AM (the day loops back again)
- Any time you hear the name “Punxsutawney”
- Every time physical harm comes to Bill Murray (e.g. slaps, suicides)
FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:
Larry (Chris Elliot) says “Would you be interested in seeing the inside of a van?”

Next week, we deal with another holiday-themed film with “Day” in the title. However, instead of a critically-acclaimed movie that sits in the National Film Registry, we get the most blatant excuse for a quick Hollywood paycheck in the 2010 celebrity trainwreck Valentine’s Day!
