HORROR OCTORBOR III: Halloween III – Season of the Witch (1982)

Halloween III

Happy AlcoHolloween, listeners! We (along with guest Julia) wrap up Horror Octorbor this year with Halloween III: Season of the Witch, arguably one of the most divisive Part 3s in horror history! Instead of following the Michael Myers formula, John Carpenter and director Tommy Lee Wallace chose to try to make Halloween an anthology series with this installment – here, an evil Irish corporation hatches a scheme to summon the forces of darkness through kitschy Halloween masks, with only a dorky May-December couple to stop them. The film’s still a big mess, but there’s a bit of goofy fun to be had, with its odd mixture of Invasion of the Body Snatchers psychological torment and just the right amount of camp. Even still, we’ve got a custom cocktail and drinking game to go along with it, so check it out below!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: Basic Witches’ Pumpkin Sp-iced Latte

Halloween III Cocktail

It’s pumpkin spice season, for better or worse, so we’ve got something to quench the thirst of all you hipsters out there. Since it’s Halloween, though, we decided to spook it up a bit with some Irish whiskey and Irish cream, given Silver Shamrock Novelties’ Celtic pedigree. (You can feel free to use regular Irish cream for this recipe and add the pumpkin spices as needed, if you want to avoid the candle-y texture of the Falton’s.)

2 parts Irish whiskey
2 parts espresso
3 parts Falton’s pumpkin-flavored Irish cream
1 heaped tablespoon, peanut butter
cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove (to taste)
dash, Aztec coffee bitters
whipped cream
dash, cocoa powder

1) Combine Irish cream, peanut butter, and spices in a blender.
2) Add to glass with ice, whiskey, bitters and espresso, and stir to combine.
3) Top with whipped cream and cocoa powder. Garnish with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.

DRINKING RULES FOR HALLOWEEN III:

  1. Any time the Silver Shamrock commercial comes up
  2. Every time a new title card comes up (showing either date, place or time elapsed)
  3. Whenever you see a new piece of technology

FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:

Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy) says at the end of his big, gloating speech to Dr. Dan the Doctor Man, “…Happy Halloween.”
