HORROR OCTORBOR III: The Omen III – The Final Conflict (1981) w/Consequence of Sound

HELL-o listeners! Justin Gerber and Randall Colburn of Consequence of Sound joins us as we continue our spooky look at the third part of different horror series with The Omen 3: The Final Conflict! This time, baby boy Antichrist Damien Thorn is all growed up (and played by a smirking Sam Neill), in a position of political power, and all set to cement his rule over mankind by preventing the birth of the Nazarene. Standing in his way, of course, are a cabal of comically clumsy clergy, Damien’s dunce of a dame, and his terrifically tepid toady, all of whom try (and confusedly fail) to take down the Antichrist, with little margin for TERROR! Check it out along with our custom cocktail and drinking game!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The Chill Omen

omen iii cocktailSince we’re drinking to an Antichrist flick, we’d be remiss if we didn’t make a 666-themed drink! To that end, we made a sufficiently sophisticated and fruity gin-Pimm’s cocktail to match both Sam Neill’s Antichrist-y nature and the film’s classy London setting. Be sure to make your own apricot syrup by cooking down apricot juice, sugar and water in a saucepan until it reaches a thick, syrupy consistency.

2 parts North Shore No. 6 gin
1 part Pimm’s no. 6
6 parts sparkling water
1 tsp apricot syrup
dash, citrus bitters
splash, Two Paddocks Pinot Noir (Sam Neill’s own vintage)

1) Pour gin, Pimm’s, water, syrup and bitters into goblet over crushed ice.
2) Splash pinot noir on top and serve.

DRINKING RULES FOR THE OMEN III:

  1. Whenever two men in suits start a conversation in a room
  2. Every time a character mentions “the Nazarene”
  3. Any time a dog does something sinister or suspicious

FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:

Damien threatens his followers with the banality of returning to the “flaccid bosom of Christ.”

Join us next week as we strap a camera on our oscillating fan and continue Horror Octorbor with the found-footage shocks of Paranormal Activity III!
