ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPECIAL: Grabbers (2012)

Erin go bragh, faithful listeners! This week, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with our very own St. Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, as we down a pint and fight some beasties with the Irish horror comedy Grabbers!

When a sleepy Irish town is beset by extraterrestrial octopods with a thirst for blood, the town must rally around an alcoholic local cop (Richard Coyle) and his straight-laced partner (Ruth Bradley) to fight them off the only way they know how – by getting piss drunk!

Much like previous podcast subject Attack the BlockGrabbers is deeply indebted to the droll horror-comedy humor of Edgar Wright, and manages to find its own charms within that level of sincere imitation. Check out our thoughts, along with our custom cocktail and drinking game, below!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK:

DRINKING RULES FOR GRABBERS:

  1. Any time a character drinks
  2. Every time a character engages in creative Irish swears (“feck,” “gobshite”)
  3. Whenever the film takes a break to celebrate the bonnie Irish countryside

FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:

Ciaran (Richard Coyle) says “Slainte” before pouring ethanol down the main Grabber’s throat.

Next time, we get our game on and go play with 2001’s smash-mouthiest film, the ensemble road comedy Rat Race!
