Rhinestone (1984)

Have you ever heard the song “Rhinestone Cowboy” and thought to yourself, “Man, this would make a great movie!”….No? Well someone made it! Saddle up, as this week’s Alcohollywood handles a particularly terrible film – the 1984 country-western fish-out-of-water buddy-comedy Rhinestone, directed by Bob Clark (who can seemingly only direct good movies with Christmas in the title) and starring Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton!

Rhinestone is currently available on Netflix streaming!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: Drinkenstein

rhinestone cocktail3 parts Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey

2 parts Goldschlager

4 parts Budweiser

splash, Red Bull

silver leaf

Pour Tennessee Honey, Goldschlager and Budweiser into pint glass, over ice. Top with Red Bull. Sprinkle edible silver leaf into drink. Garnish with apple slice (if desired).

DRINKING RULES FOR RHINESTONE:

  1. Anytime something sparkles (e.g. credits, half the costumes)
  2. Every timesomeone calls someone else a “cute” name
  3. Whenever Stallone sings… for as long as it takes to make it better

FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:

Jake (Dolly Parton) says to Nick (Sylvester Stallone), “What makes you think you’re a singer after two weeks?”

With your Drinkenstein in hand, and the rules to go with, we bid you Godspeed in enduring the cinematic trainwreck that is Rhinestone!

  1. Please re-post Sylvester sings with subtitles! I watched it whenever I need a laugh. FOX blows. They’re just jealous that they didn’t come up with the idea of subtitling Sly.

    1. Thanks, we’re really proud of that one! We’re planning on getting it up with some other service (Blip, etc.) very soon, and we’ll be sure to link it to the Rhinestone post here. We will keep you apprised through our Facebook and Twitter feeds, so feel free to subscribe there if you haven’t already!

  2. You can really hear the booze coming out while you’re recording this one. Wonderful.

I may just have to watch this again and do the drinking game— hahahahahaha no
