Dredd (2012) w/Mercy Street Theatre Company

Dredd

This week on Alcohollywood, Julia Rohed of Mercy Street Theatre Company joins us to talk the Karl Urban 2012 comic book movie/reboot Dredd! Fulfilling a mission he’s had (perhaps to an irritating degree) for the past 3 years, Clint finally gets Jared to watch Dredd, the most recent adaptation of the British comic strip after the 1995 Sylvester Stallone disaster. Does it hold up to the cult hype? Did it deserve the sequel fans never got? And how does a population that’s 96% unemployed buy all those drugs anyway? Find out all these answers and more, along with our custom cocktail and drinking rules!

THIS EPISODE’S DRINK: The SoCo Slo-Mo

Inspired both by the time-warping drug in the film, and the name of the tower block Dredd and Anderson have to fight through, we combined Southern Comfort and DeKuyper PeachTree Peach Schnapps to make a drink that is far from dredd-ful!

1 part DeKuyper peach schnapps
2 parts Southern Comfort whiskey
splash, lemon
splash, soda water
dash, orange bitters

DRINKING RULES FOR DREDD:

  1. Whenever characters do violence to the face (shooting people in the head, etc.)
  2. Any time the film switches to Slo-Mo vision (Justin Bieber music, air glitter)
  3. Every time someone says the word ‘Judge’

FINISH YOUR DRINK WHEN:

Dredd mutters “…yeah” After he summarily executes Ma-Ma.

Join us next week as we take on the 50s adaptation of HG Wells’ Food of the Gods!
